Can I be convicted based on my confession alone?

No, a confession alone is not enough for a conviction. There needs to be corroborating evidence in order to prove guilt to avoid false convictions.

According to the Corpus Delicti Rule independent evidence must be present to indicate that a crime has occurred. Therefore, a confession alone is insufficient and cannot be the sole basis for a conviction. This rule was established to prevent wrongful convictions due to false confessions. False confessions occur due to mental illness, lack of understanding, protecting someone, coercion, and fear of harsh punishment.
